07Travel Brochure

At NIC we try to open borders to our students to introduce to them more than just studying English. We also teach them how to become global citizens. One way that you can do this is to create a Travel Brochure. Let me show you how you can do this.

Materials:

  • An A4 notebook
  • a search engine like yahoo or encyclopedias
  • some pens and markers

What to do

  1. Choose a country

Of course, you can research popular countries such as the United States, England, France or Italy, but perhaps you might want to research some less common places, as well. For example, you could choose a country that you don’t know much about like Pakistan, Ghana, Argentina or Estonia.

  2. Make a checklist of areas to research

There are so many interesting things to learn about a country. Below are some categories that you can choose from to research:

    • History
    • Language
    • Foods
    • Clothing
    • Religion
    • Government
    • Customs
    • Economy & business
    • Arts
    • Sports
  3. Begin researching

Remember in the Discovery Journal entry on 5/15? I mentioned how to search for information using the Internet. In case you forgot, here it is again:

    Some popular search engines below:

    https://www.yahoo.com or https://www.google.com

Remember just type in a key word that will help the search engine find information about your topic.

By the way, you can go to this website to find a lot of information about any country in the world

    The World Factbook

  4. Make your brochure

Each page of your A4 notebook can have a different country. You can write information about the country, draw pictures, cut out magazine photos, or decorate each page in any way to make it interesting. Make sure that when you write something about a country that you write it in your own words. Never copy from the Internet or from a book.

If you do a lot of these, you will learn a lot about people in other countries. It’s a great cultural lesson for everyone. This idea is not only good for your English, but it is also excellent for your understanding of world cultures!

Your goal is to fill your notebook with a lot of information about many interesting countries. Good luck on your journey!
